Possibilities of including Turkmenistan’s mud volcanoes in UNESCO World Heritage List under study

Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan Ch.Babaniyazov, speaking at the regular meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO on November 16, reported on the activities of the Working Group on the study of the possibilities of including the ancient mud volcanoes Akpatlavuk and Geokpatlavuk as monuments of natural geological significance of world significance in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The mud volcanoes, located in the western part of Turkmenistan, are a unique natural phenomenon of great scientific importance.

The environmental sphere is one of the current areas of multi-vector cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
