People’s Artist of the USSR and People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Medeniyet Shakhberdieva died, aged 88.
The renowned opera singer graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and for many years worked in the Turkmen State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. She performed the parts in the operas “Shasenem and Garib”, “Tsar’s Bride”, “Traviata” and many others. Her voice could be heard in the feature film “The trick of old Ashir”.
Medeniyet Shakhberdieva became famous across the Soviet Union after her magnificent performance of the song by Alyabyev “A nightingale”.
The opera singer was born on 23 February, 1930 in the city of Kerki.
