Parliamentarians of Turkmenistan and the European Union discussed prospects for developing bilateral contacts

Prospects for further development of fruitful bilateral contacts put on the agenda of the next meeting in the format of the interparliamentary dialogue "Turkmenistan-European Union", held online.

Opening the meeting, head of the European Parliament delegation Fulvio Martushello spoke in favor of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the European Union's strategy for relations with Central Asia.

In turn, the members of the Turkmen delegation familiarized their European colleagues with the structure and key functions of the Mejlis, as well as steps to improve national legislation.

Priority aspects of Turkmenistan's activities to maintain peace and security in Central Asia enhance economic cooperation between the States of the region, and address topical environmental issues were the subject of an interesting discussion.

The European Union highly appreciates the constructive activity of neutral Turkmenistan in the region, which confirmed in the speech of the EU Special representative for Central Asia Peter Burian.

According to the agreement, the date and venue of the next meeting in the format of the interparliamentary dialogue "Turkmenistan-European Union" will agreed through diplomatic channels, the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" reports today.
