Paper Lantern Festival takes place in Shanghai ahead of Chinese New Year

On the eve of the Chinese New Year, the annual paper lantern festival takes place in Yuyuan Park in Shanghai. This year it opened on January 21 and will run until February 18. “AiF” reports this.

The festival is dedicated to Chinese mythology and the sea, since 2024 is the year of the dragon, and these fabulous creatures, according to legend, live in the depths of the ocean.

More than 200 thousand lanterns of various shapes and sizes decorate the park. They symbolize joy and prosperity.

Traditionally, during the festival, festive performances, dances with dragons and lions, as well as various religious rituals are held. One of the most famous traditions of the festival is decorating with light installations in various forms - from animals to zodiac signs.

The Paper Lantern Festival in Yuyuan Park is one of the most popular cultural events in China. It attracts tourists from all over the world to experience Chinese culture and traditions.
