The news outlet Iran Front Page reports that Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan who was elected a week ago said Iran will seek to broaden friendly relations with Iran, including in gas trade.
According to Khan, resuming the construction of the gas pipeline Iran-Pakistan will be one of the key priority joint projects.
According to the news outlet, the gas pipeline Iran-Pakistan-India was designed in the 90-s, but due to the pressure exerted by the US to promote the TAPI, the project has not been implemented.
Iran says it has completed work on its side of the pipeline up to the border of Pakistan and is ready to deliver the gas but Islamabad has yet to start construction of the line on its territory.
Pointing to TAPI pipeline, Imran Khan said that even if this project is implemented, the estimated capacity will not be enough to fulfill Tehran’s demand and Pakistan will need to supply energy from Iran”.
Imran Khan was elected Pakistan’s Prime Minister on 17 August after his party Tehreek-e-Insaf won in the Pakistani elections on 25 July.
On 20 August President Berdymukhammedov congratulated Imran Khan on being elected the Prime Minister.
