5 thousand tons of potatoes will be imported to Turkmenistan through Makhachkala commercial seaport.
Potatoes will be delivered in two batches, TASS reports with reference to the public affairs office of the marine port.
According to the CEO of Makhachkala commercial seaport Murad Khidirov, the first batch of potatoes in sacks have already been delivered via motor transport and have been loaded on board of the tanker “Balkan”.
“The weight of the export cargo is over 2 thousand tons. Another ship “Turkmenistan” is in the harbor waiting for the docking. Over 3 thousand tons of potatoes will be loaded on board of the ship”, Khidirov said.
Let us recall that after Turkmenistan had closed its border with Iran in late February as a prevention measure the combat the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 on its territory potatoes disappeared from the counters of the markets.
“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has previously reported that in an attempt to appease the residents in late February 2020 the khyakims of the province held meetings with the elders to share the government’s plan to import potatoes from Russia and told about negotiations with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the import of onions.
Update. Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that the Russian potatoes are already available in Ashgabat markets at 12 manats per kilo.
