OTS Observer Mission Expected to Monitor Turkmen Presidential Elections

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Baghdad Amreyev held an online meeting on Thursday. The diplomats paid special attention to cooperation in sending the OTS observer mission to monitor the preparation and holding of March 12 Turkmen presidential elections.

The sides discussed the prospects for the development of cooperation of Turkmenistan with the OTS, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

The head of the Turkmen foreign policy agency emphasized the need to further expand cooperation with OTS countries in various fields.

It was stressed that Turkmenistan is interested in developing its partnership with a number of international organizations affiliated with the Organization of Turkic States.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) CIS Executive Secretary Leonid Anfimov had announced that the CIS observers expect to take part in monitoring the presidential elections in Turkmenistan.

Last Saturday, Ivan Mushket, Director of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA), said the IPA CIS will consider an invitation from the authorities of Turkmenistan to take part in monitoring the upcoming early presidential elections, if it is sent.
