Every year on June 23, according to the established tradition, the whole world, including Turkmenistan, celebrates the International Olympic Day.The idea of ​​creating a special celebration for the Olympic Movement around the world first appeared in 1947.

During the 41st Session of the International Olympic Committee in Stockholm, Dr.Gruss, an IOC member from Czechoslovakia, presented a report on the celebration of World Olympic Day, which will primarily be the day of promoting the Olympic idea and popularizing the sport around the world.

The Olympic Movement serves to create a better world by educating young people in a spirit of solidarity and friendship through sports.

One of the expressions of the Olympic movement is the mass participation in competitions, namely, massive long-distance races. They became the main sporting event of the holiday.

On this day, according to tradition, numerous amateurs of athletics and students from sports schools took part in the mass running starting at the Ashgabat stadium. In the same place, following the results of the competition, the winners were awarded certificates and valuable gifts.

Celebrations on occasion of the holiday continued at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan, where representatives of national sports federations, as well as sports veterans and students of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports gathered.

At the meeting, was shown a congratulating video of the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, on the occasion of Olympic Day.Further, during the meeting, young Olympians of Turkmenistan were awarded certificates, as well as valuable gifts.

Honored sports workers of Turkmenistan demonstrated their presentations and reports on the history of the Olympic movement.
