Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that in the morning of 14 May, 2020 a meeting bringing together employees of the municipal khyakimlik’s office (city hall) with residents was held in the district of Zhelezhnodorozhniy of Turkmenabat (formerly, Chardjou).
In the Soviet times the so-called “Finnish” houses, which at that time were considered to be a modern type of accommodation, were built in the residential district. The dilapidated houses have been serious affected by the hurricane which hit the city in late April.
The residents of the district outraged by the lack of action on part of the authorities have repeatedly contacted all higher-ranking authorities of the city and velayat.
A few days ago the delegation of local elders visited several government agencies of the residential district, including the police centre located in Garashsyzlyk street (formerly, Schmidt street) where representatives of the authorities promised to organize a meeting with responsible officials from the khyakimlik’s office.
Starting from early morning the residents of Zhelezhnodorozhniy district, who had learned about the meeting as well as inhabitants of the neighbouring districts, convened in front of the police centre.
The Youtube channel of the opposition member, a politician Khalmurad Soyunov posted a short video from the meeting venue featuring a large number of people.
Officials from the khyakimlik’s office assured the meeting participants that they are aware of their problems and that the administration has the information on the damage incurred and informed residents about the support measures which are scheduled to be undertaken.
Roofs of multi-story apartment blocks are currently being repaired. Many locals confirmed that the roofs of several houses have already been fixed.
According to a source of “Chronicles of Turkmenabat” in the khyakimlik’s office, non-privatized houses, including “Finnish” houses will be restored at the expense of the government.
Residents of high rise apartment blocks who have privatized apartments as well as owners of privately-owned houses will be given loans for remodeling and restoring their property and will be provided with construction materials at fixed prices.
Departments of the organization “Lebapgurulyshyk” and a local reinforced concrete products facility will be engaged in repair works in privatized and privately-owned property.
