North-South Transport Corridor: UAE Interested in Deliveries via Turkmenistan Railway

Arzybek Kozhoshev, the Minister for Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), and Mohammad Ahmad Al-Jaber, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Russia, held a meeting on Thursday to discuss freight transportation between the EAEU countries and the UAE, including rail transportation through Turkmenistan.

According to the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the sides discussed cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the UAE in the context of the development of the North-South international transportation corridor and alternative energy.

Arzybek Kozhoshov informed on the study of the possibilities for expanding the shipment of goods from the EAEU countries through Turkmenistan and Iran by rail and then by sea to the UAE, and vice versa.

The EEC Minister for Energy and Infrastructure highlighted particular attention given to the potential increase in the transportation of food products from the EAEU countries to the UAE within the Eurasian AgroExpress joint project of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

Mohammad Ahmad Al-Jaber expressed the readiness of the UAE to engage in dialogue with the EAEU in the field of transportation and energy, as well as an interest in the imminent conclusion of an agreement on economic partnership between the UAE and the EAEU.

In April of this year, Turkmenistan was included in the Eurasian AgroExpress project.
