New requirements for timber transit across Russia published

Russian authorities are introducing new rules for timber transportation from the beginning of 2025, which will require all road carriers, including Turkmen ones, to install satellite navigation equipment.

The Innovation will affect all vehicles transporting timber both within the territory of the Russian Federation and those traveling to a third of the country through the territory of Russia.

According to the order of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, vehicles must be equipped with GLONASS/ERA-GLONASS equipment with a personal universal identification card. Navigation information will be sent to the state information system ERA-GLONASS, which will allow real-time tracking of transport routes.

Additional requirements have been introduced for foreign carriers, including Turkmen ones: opening branches in Russia and registration in the Unified Identification and Authentication System (ESIA). Failure to comply with the new rules will result in administrative liability, which will be in effect from January 1, 2025.

The Innovation applies to motor transport transporting timber and its processed products in accordance with commodity position 86-1 of the All-Russian Classifier of Products.
