New International Airport Opens in Turkmenistan’s Kerki

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov within the framework of his working trip to Lebap velayat took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the opening of the Kerki International Airport and the Türkmeniň Ak Öýi (Turkmen’s White Yurt) building in Turkmenabat.

The new air harbor was built by the order of the Türkmenhowaýollary (Turkmen Airlines) Agency by Gündogdy Individual Enterprise in Kerki city of Turkmenistan’s eastern velayat.The new airport has a two-story passenger terminal with a total area of 2,221 square meters.

The terminal hall has a height of 6 to 9 meters, and the departure hall has 120 seats, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

The area of the airfield is 42,282 square meters and it can simultaneously park 2 large aircraft and 4 helicopters.

During the celebrations, Kerki International Airport was presented with an official ICAO document on the assignment of the four-letter location code UTAE and the Certificate of Conformity to International Standards issued by Munich International Airport.

At the end of the opening ceremony of the airport, the Head of State proceeded to the new Boeing 777-200LR airliner. The new plane made its first flight on the Kerki-Turkmenabat route. At the plane, the Head of Turkmenistan conversed with newlyweds and their parents, who are flying from Kerki to the administrative center of Lebap velayat.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov then took part in the opening ceremony of the "Türkmeniň ak öýi" building, built in the form of a giant white yurt, in Turkmenabat. The four-storey building is 40 meters high, can accommodate 3 thousand seats, and includes administrative offices, concert halls and other relevant premises.

During the opening ceremony, the Head of State also took part in the festive sadaqah.
