New Ambassador of Saudi Arabia begins work in Turkmenistan

Today President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Turkmenistan Said Osman Ahmed Suweid, who presented his credentials.

Expressing deep gratitude for the time allotted for a personal meeting, the diplomat conveyed warm greetings to the head of the Turkmen state from the Servant of the Two Holy Places of King Salman Ben Abdelaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, who addressed sincere wishes for peace and prosperity to the Turkmen leader and people of the country.

Congratulating the plenipotentiary representative of a friendly state on his appointment to a responsible post, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed best wishes to the top leadership and people of Saudi Arabia. The head of Turkmenistan noted with satisfaction the high level of established friendly interstate relations based on a mutual desire to develop effective interaction in all spheres.

During the meeting, which was held in a constructive manner, a thorough exchange of views took place on a wide range of Turkmen-Saudi cooperation, which is strengthened by a trusting and productive dialogue on a bilateral and multilateral basis, primarily within the framework of major international organizations and regional structures.

The diplomat emphasized that in Saudi Arabia, as in the rest of the world, they fully support the peaceful foreign policy pursued by neutral Turkmenistan, which is a key factor in geopolitical balance, peace and stability in Central Asia, as well as the proactive approach of our country to solving pressing issues of our time.

This is confirmed by the important initiative of the Turkmen leader to proclaim this year, 2021, the International Year of Peace and Trust, supported by the world community and enshrined in a special resolution of the UN General Assembly.

Thanking for the full support of the constructive proposals put forward by Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that partnership on the UN platform allows our country to realize its neutral status in order to ensure sustainable development and security in the region and the world.

Reaffirming the intention of the parties to give the traditional partnership new dynamics and content, the head of state and the ambassador expressed mutual confidence in the further intensification of political, diplomatic and trade and economic ties, which meets the interests of the two countries and their friendly peoples.

As part of the discussion of the prospects for interaction in priority areas, the importance of the agreements reached during the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in May 2016 was especially emphasized.

The diplomat noted the interest of the business circles of Saudi Arabia in establishing closer business contacts. The high goals set are directly served by the activities of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Saudi Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Among the current vectors of partnership are the fuel and energy complex, trade and economic sphere, transport and communication sector, etc.

They also noted the unconditional importance of strengthening interaction in the cultural and humanitarian field as an integral part of the modern Turkmen-Saudi dialogue, which serves to strengthen the ties of friendship between the two fraternal peoples united by a common spiritual tradition and historically established ties.

Taking this opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed an invitation to the King and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia to visit Turkmenistan at any time convenient for them. By agreement of the parties, the dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.

At the end of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the diplomat exchanged good wishes, expressing confidence that the existing mutual interest and goodwill of the fraternal peoples of the two countries will serve to bring the Turkmen-Saudi dialogue to a new level that meets mutual interests.
