New Ambassador of British starts working in Turkmenistan

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received today the new appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Turkmenistan Ms. Lucia Wilde, who presented her credentials to the head of state, the “Watan” news program of Turkmen television reported.

The head of Turkmenistan congratulated the diplomat on her appointment to a responsible post and wished him success in developing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues related to the intensification of cooperation in a number of key areas, including the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural, humanitarian and environmental spheres.

The subject of increased attention was the formation of new international transport routes on the Eurasian continent.

Ensuring energy security, diversifying energy supplies to world markets, resolving the situation in Afghanistan, to the economic revival of which Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution, were also named as priority aspects of cooperation.

During the conversation, the desire of the two countries was confirmed to strengthen partnerships in such strategic areas as environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, diversification and digitalization of the economy, support for the private sector, etc.

Confirming the mutual commitment of the two countries to intensify fruitful relations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Plenipotentiary representative of a friendly state identified priority vectors of cooperation. The key areas were the fuel and energy sector, trade and economic sector, energy, processing industry, agriculture and other areas.

In this context, an important role is assigned to the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council, aimed at the effective use of economic potential, the leader of the nation noted, expressing confidence that the activities of this structure will contribute to the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Taking into account the strategy of innovative development implemented by our country, good prospects for partnership are opening up in the field of introducing advanced technologies and know-how.

Along with this, it was noted that interaction in the humanitarian field is an integral part of interstate relations. As the diplomat assured, for her part, she will fully contribute to the further strengthening of the Turkmen-British dialogue, traditionally friendly ties between the two countries and peoples, building up economic and business contacts.

Let us remind you, that Ashgabat and London established diplomatic relations in January 1992.

Business circles in the UK, as well as in Europe as a whole, are interested in expanding their presence in the dynamically developing Turkmen market and participating in new joint projects.

Ms Lucia Wilde was appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Turkmenistan in October 2021 to replace Mr Hugh Stanley Philpott, who retired from the Foreign Service.
