Natural protection issues and educational materials are in new issue of ecological magazine

Regular publication of quarterly magazine “Ecological Culture and Environmental Protection” was issued. The magazine widely covers in Turkmen, English and Russian languages natural protection activities, publishes the results of studies on profile subject and informative materials.

Ecological forum “Initiative for Cooperation in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development in the Central Asia” organized by the State Committee for Natural Protection and Land Resources with the support of Regional Ecological Centre of the Central Asia is on the important place among other reviewed events.

New issue contains the article of Head of the RECCA Iskandar Abdullayev where he summarized the activity of the centre for the last 15 years in five directions climate and energy efficiency, water cooperation, ecological education, natural heritage and environment and human health.

Personnel of National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna studied the landscape of the eastern part of the main collector of Altyn Asyr Turkmen Lake.One of the articles is dedicated to this subject.

The scientists analysed of long geo ecological cartography, made deflation wind rose.The formation of biological complexes was observed on the territories supplied with water and high growth of reed, mace, karelinia, camel thorn around filtration pools.

The work was carried out with the use of satellite images and landscape map of the area under study was developed based on combined information.

The magazine presents the review of the biodiversity of Repetek State Biosphere Reserve. Unique desert kingdom is inhabited by numerous representatives of flora and fauna. The ornithologists count more than 200 types of birds, both settled as well as drifted nested and hibernating. There are 22 species of reptiles, 250 vertebrates and 29 mammals.

The article of marine fauna of the Caspian Sea will be interested for broad audience.There are sturgeon, clupeoid, salmon and catfish species.According to historical data, there were plenty of sturgeon species in Turkmen waters; they were met in Esenguly bay and the channel of Atrek River, which was full-flowing before.

The water near the river entrances was desalinated what attracted the fish for spawning.Today, there are fisheries for artificial breeding for increase of population of these species in the Caspian Sea.

There are interesting facts in the publication.For example, there is plenty of kutum fish using Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea as a pastry.Alligator gar was caught near Essenguly and European eel and other small fishes serving as a food for predator fishes got via the channels from the Baltic Sea.

Mullet-like fishes, which were transmigrated from the Black Sea in the 30s of the last century, become marketable fish.

The article about prevention and methods of salinized soils cultivation presents the interest for the specialists. Informational and educational block is composed from the materials about the history of the first parking zones in Ashgabat, introduction of vegetation as well as about rare plants of Koytendag the endemic primroses, astragalus, wild rose.
