National report on biodiversity has been drafted and presented at the inter-departmental discussion in Ashgabat.The meeting has brought together scientific personnel and workers of regional departments for natural protection, state reserves, academic and university science, ministries and departments, which activity is related with environmental management.
The work for development of the document was carried out under the UNDP regional project “Technical Support to the countries for making of national reports on the Convention on Biological Diversity” under coordination of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Natural Protection and Land Resources.
Profile experts and scientists have been working on the report.
Information about the above-mentioned Convention and other natural protection agreements, which are supported by our country, as well as the content of national report including the information about the population of fauna, ecological complexes, aspects of work for protection of gene pool of Turkmen nature have been presented during the meeting.
Deputy Director of the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna, Candidate of Biological Science Jumamurad Saparmuradov informed that there are about 20,000 species of biological diversity including 7,000 plants and mushrooms in our country.
At present time, the main work for the document has been accomplished and after agreement on national level, it would be handed over to the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Biodiversity is the wealth of flora and fauna, which has not only scientific and practical use but also an aesthetic importance for people.First, this is vegetation responds to the change of environment.
The condition of the plants allows monitoring the quality of ecosystems, - scientist of the laboratory of forests and pastures of the Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna Guljemal Kurbanmammedova says.
National Report helps making analysis of the information about the population of species, areas of their habitation and dynamics of changes.
