Famous Turkmen film director Hangeldi Agakhanov was born in Ashgabat on January 28, 1916. Today he would be 105 years old.
Following are some facts from his biography. Upon graduation from a general education school, he studied at the cinema technical college at Turkmenfilm and graduated from the director’s group.
In 1937-1939 he worked as a dubbing director at the Turkmenfilm Studio, where he dubbed more than 1000 feature films and documentaries in the Turkmen language. He was a Great Patriotic War veteran.
Later, as a second director, he took part in the filming of “The Distant Bride”, “The Cunning of Old Ashir” and other films.As a production director, he produced the feature films “10 Steps towards the East”, “The First Exam”, “The Last Path”, “The Rooster”, etc.
He shot a documentary film “Around Turkmenistan”.He was a director-editor and director of the Turkmen version of the feature film “The Decisive Step” (directed by Alty Karlyev).
In addition to filming activities, Hangeldi Agakhanov translated into Turkmen the classics of fiction and popular science literature, translated stories and proverbs, poems from Russian, Ukrainian, German and Turkish, collaborated with many newspapers and magazines. He passed away in 2000, when he was 84 years old.
