Monument to Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbayev unveiled in Ashgabat

A monument to the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbayev was unveiled in Ashgabat today.

The grand opening ceremony took place in the capital's “Lachyn” park with the participation of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. This was reported by the IIC.

The event was attended by members of the Government, honorary elders, heads and representatives of ministries and departments, including representatives of culture and the media.

During the opening, performances by creative groups took place. Cultural figures from both countries performed a musical composition in the Turkmen and Kazakh languages.

The Abai monument in Ashgabat is an important event in the cultural sphere. It is intended to become a symbol of spiritual wealth, friendship and mutual understanding between peoples.
