Merdan Atayev wins gold in the 200m backstroke at the Uzbekistan Open Swimming Championships

Turkmen swimmer Merdan Atayev won a gold medal in the 200m backstroke at the Uzbekistan Open Swimming Championship in Tashkent.

He covered the distance in 2 minutes 12.65 seconds. The silver medal was won by Uzbek Kirill Abdullaev (2:14.74). According to the Swimming Federation of Uzbekistan, only two swimmers competed in this category.

The national team of Turkmenistan has 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

The men's team of Turkmenistan is represented by Merdan Ataev, Musa Dzhalaev, David Hakobyan, Arslan Gayypnazarov, Eminguly Ballikov, Abdyrahman Agamuradov, Selim Nazarov. The women's team included Aynura Primova, Ejesh Primova, Enesh Primova, Valeriya Mirenskaya and Anastasiya Morgenstern.

Turkmen swimmers are trained by Vladimir Novikov and Mark Pilyugin.
