On 13 January the third unscheduled session of Turkmenistan’s Agrarian Party was held.
In the course of the meeting “the delegates expressed gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the regular attention to the comprehensive development of rural areas”, the state information agency TDH reports.
It should be highlighted that the President of Turkmenistan is neither the leader nor a member of the Agrarian Party.
In their presentations, members of the party talked about comprehensive government support, large-scale state investments as well as the modernization of all manufacturing infrastructure of the agricultural sector.
Modern tractors, combine harvesters and other equipment made by leading world manufacturers are purchased.Specific measures are being undertaken to improve water supply and agricultural reclamation, development of virgin land, improving soil fertility, the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies, development of seed selection and livestock breeding, — the state information agency quotes one of the speakers.
At the same time, according to Radio “Azatlyk”, Dashoguz public prosecutor’s office is summoning for interrogation those farmers who failed to fulfill their cotton harvesting quota.
However, the farmers claim that the authorities did not provide them with mineral fertilizers or equipment and did not carry out the works envisaged by contractual obligations.
Let us recall that throughout 2017 the President repeatedly expressed discontent with the performance of Turkmenistan’s agro-industrial sector. Moreover, this happened against the backdrop of quarterly reports by state-run media outlets on executed plans for harvested wheat and cotton crops, winter crop sowings and so on.
In November 2017 President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov dismissed several khyakims in Lebap and Mary velayats for corruption and problems in agriculture.
In December the Minister of Agriculture and Water Economy Nursakhed Sapardurdyev was relieved from his post for shortcomings in his work.
