Mechanisms for ensuring employment of persons with disabilities in Turkmenistan were discussed

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.On this occasion, an online seminar was held in Ashgabat to discuss the mechanism for providing employment for persons with disabilities in Turkmenistan.

The seminar was organized within the framework of the project "Affordable Work for Persons with Disabilities in Turkmenistan: Transforming Social Enterprises for Education and Decent Work", implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Turkmenistan in cooperation with the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan.

The online event was attended by representatives of ministries, departments and public associations of Turkmenistan, including Milli Gengesh.

During the seminar, a discussion was held on the prospects and practical aspects of providing employment for persons with disabilities in the open labor market of Turkmenistan, taking into account the model of inclusive employment, which is promoted through the prism of a joint project.

The establishment of a dialogue on this issue between all stakeholders was considered to develop partnerships with the public and private sector.

Rovshen Nurmuhamedov, Head of the UNDP Programming Department in Turkmenistan:

The goal of the project “Accessible Work for Persons with Disabilities in Turkmenistan: Transforming Social Enterprises for Education and Decent Work” is to expand employment and income opportunities for persons with hearing and vision disabilities through vocational training and create new job opportunities.

The project is an integral part of the Framework Program for Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development between Turkmenistan and the UN and the Country Program of Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UNDP for 2021-2025. and is designed for 2 years, according to a press release from UNDP.
