Matvienko reminds of the preparation for the visit of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to Turkmenistan

TASS reports that the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, who is now paying a visit to Ashgabat, met with the head of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan Akdja Nurberdyeva.

At the press conference summing up the results of the meeting, Matvienko said that the Turkmen Parliament had taken a decision to join the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The country’s application could be accepted next October at the assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in St. Petersburg.

The Chairwoman of the Federation Council also reported on the active preparations for the visit of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to Turkmenistan.

“As you are aware, preparations for the Russian President’s visit to Turkmenistan are underway, which will play an important role in further strengthening relations between our people and countries”, — Matvienko told journalists after the meeting with the Mejlis speaker Akdja Nurberdyeva.
