Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that Mary velayat has been experiencing regular disruption in their Internet connection since the start of the month.
According to local residents, the Internet connection had been unreliable before but in May the situation significantly deteriorated. Even regular websites and services normally accessible in Turkmenistan are not downloading, residents of Mary velayat told “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.
The connection speed varies from a few tens of Kbit/sec to a total absence of signal.
The only Messenger service accessible in Turkmenistan IMO is not fully operational because audio and video calls are not available and text messages are delayed by several delays.
The situation varies from district to district. For example, in the cities of Turkmengala and Yoleten problems with Internet access began on 2 May, the day of Eid al-Fitr celebrations, and are still ongoing. A similar situation is being observed in the etraps of Velkilbazar and Murgab.
In the administrative centre of the region, the city of Mary, as well as in the city of Bayramali, connection speeds are slightly higher but access to the Internet resources and applications is also limited.
We have been unable to find out the real reasons behind problems with the Internet access.
A source at “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported that on 2 May a landslide in Serkhetabad etrap (formerly, Kushka) had caused considerable damage to infrastructure facilities and destroyed utilities in the backyards of private houses.
It was after that that the cities of Serkhetabat and Tagtabazar began to experience problems with Internet access.According to the source, this is allegedly how the authorities are trying to prevent an information leak on the natural disaster although this cannot be reliably confirmed.
A month ago there were reports on irregular Internet connections across Turkmenistan. It is unclear whether this was a consequence of deliberate restriction of Internet access to Turkmen residents, or whether this was caused by a technical failure (failure of DNS-server provider), which may have been caused by the testing of new software for detailed analyses of Internet traffic and restricting the use of the Internet (VPN connection identification). The post Mary velayat experiences irregular Internet connection first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
