Kazakhstan officials have registered the Sputnik V vaccine produced by the Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex, the government’s interagency commission on coronavirus response said on Monday.
“The Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex (KPC) has concluded the registration procedure of the Gam-COVID-Vac coronavirus vaccine (Sputnik V) on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the message says.
“On February 13 this year the drug received an approval by the expert commission of Kazakhstan’s Health Ministry as a safe, high quality and effective vaccine after considering files of a registration dossier.
Based on the approval received, an application for obtaining a registration certificate was sent to the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Thus, Kazakhstan has become the 27th country to approve the use of the Sputnik V vaccine,” the KPC statement said.
According to preliminary calculations, at the end of February this year, it is planned to supply about 90 thousand doses of the SputnikV vaccine produced by KPC to all regions of the country.
In January, Sputnik V’s pilot batch produced by the Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex was approved by Russia’s Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. On January 27, Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Health Minister Marat Shoranov announced that the facility had launched production of the vaccine’s first batch.
On February 1, Kazakhstan launched mass vaccination with the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine produced in Russia. After approval of the drug, Kazakhstan plans to use the Sputnik V vaccine manufactured at the Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex for vaccination.
In the second quarter of the year, the government also plans to start vaccination with Kazakh-developed QazCovid-In vaccine, which is currently undergoing the third stage of clinical trials.
