Leyla Shohradova won bronze at the World Chess Championship in Batumi

16-year-old Leyla Shohradova from Turkmenistan won a bronze medal at the World Chess Championship in Batumi (Georgia).A student of the 10th grade of the 31st secondary school of the Dyanev etrap of the Lebap velayat achieved this success in the category of girls no older than 16 years old in the “rapid” format, in which each player is allocated 15 minutes with an addition of 10 seconds for each move, the website reports.

Based on the results of 11 rounds, Leyla Shohradova scored 8 points, losing only to the representatives of Russia and Belarus.

About 500 young chess players from 35 countries of the world compete for medals in the age categories from 8 to 18 years old. Turkmenistan at the world championship is represented by 12 best chess players of the country (6 girls and 6 boys).

The team is being prepared during the tournament by experienced specialists - Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Serdar Annaberdiyev and head of the delegation Sona Jumagulyeva.
