Turkmen chess players Saparmyrat Atabayev and Azat Nurmamedov fulfilled international standards at the Asian Championship, which ended in New Delhi (India), in which our country was represented by 9 athletes in the men's (open) and women's categories.
As the “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” website reports with the reference to the press release of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, Saparmyrat Atabayev, having scored 5 points in 9 games, earned the first grandmaster ball, and Azat Nurmamedov, with a score of 4.5 points out of 9, came one step closer to conferring the title of international master.
To obtain the highest chess title, Saparmyrat Atabayev needs to score two more grandmaster points, and FIDE master Azat Nurmamedov needs to get one more norm to achieve the title of international master.
In accordance with the results of the championship, international master Saparmyrat Atabayev took 26th place. His brother Maksat, who has the title of International Grandmaster, finished 28th with 5 points. Azat Numamedov and Yusup Atabayev, having scored 4.5 points each, are located on the 39th and 54th places respectively.
The championship of Asia was contested by more than 90 men and 50 women from 13 countries who fought for the championship first in classical chess and then in blitz (blitz game).
In the blitz tournament, the best result among our compatriots was shown by Azat Nurmamedov, who took 9th place with 6 points out of 9 possible. Further on, Yusup and Maksat Atabayevs are located on the 15th and 21st, respectively.
In the women's category, 16-year-old Lala Shohradova (1856), who scored 4.5 points out of 9 possible in the classical tournament, took 29th place, which allowed her to increase her rating by 110 points. Hurma Veliyeva (2003) has 24 rating points.
In the blitz tournament, the best result among Turkmen chess players was shown by Jemal Ovezdurdyyeva (blitz rating: 1961), who took 18th place with 5 points out of 9 possible in the final standings.
The chess championship of Asia was held from October 25 to November 4, 2022.
