Large gold deposit discovered in China

The Geological Survey of Hunan Province in central China has announced the discovery of a large gold deposit valued at more than 600 billion yuan ($82.8 billion), MIR 24 reports.

During exploration, specialists discovered a branched network of more than 40 gold-bearing veins located at a depth of over two kilometers. According to preliminary estimates, the total volume of precious metal deposits at a depth of up to three kilometers exceeds a thousand tons.

The discovery is especially relevant against the backdrop of growing demand for gold in China. Despite the fact that in 2023, gold production in the country increased by 0.84% and reached 375.16 tons, consumption of the precious metal significantly exceeded this figure, amounting to 1089.69 tons, which is 8.78% more than the previous year.
