Kazakhstan is modernizing checkpoints on the border with Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the Mangistau region. This was reported by the Sputnik agency with reference to the press service of the Department of State Revenues for the Mangistau region.
It is planned to furnish and equip the “Temir-Baba” checkpoints on the border with Turkmenistan and “Tazhen” on the border with Uzbekistan. Modernization will increase the throughput of checkpoints, and, accordingly, the turnover, introduce new communication and data transmission technologies. And also, to equip points with equipment for the control of individuals, luggage, goods and vehicles.
Within the framework of the project implementation, checkpoints will be equipped taking into account the separation of vehicle traffic flows in order to prevent their crossing. Warehouses, parking lots, quarantine parking lots, separate lanes for large/heavy vehicles will also be equipped. The number of vehicle lanes will be increased from two to six (three in each direction).
Planned terms of modernization - 19 months. Construction at checkpoints began in March 2023. Completion of the project is planned for the end of 2024.
After the modernization, it is planned to increase the throughput of checkpoints by 8-12 times and reduce the time from one hour to 25 minutes.
The project is being implemented without closing checkpoints, but with restrictions on the movement of vehicles and individuals. Passage of vehicles and individuals is carried out on part of the territory of checkpoints, and the rest of the territory where construction is underway is fenced and closed for movement.
The total length of the Kazakh-Turkmen state border is about 458,3 km. at present time, there is a “Temir-Baba” automobile checkpoint on the border, where the customs post of the same name is located, as well as the “Bolashak” railway customs post.
The border cargo-passenger customs post “Temir-Baba” is located in the Temir-baba area of the Karakiya district in the south of the Mangistau region, the distance to the regional center - the city of Aktau - 335 km.
