Islam Makhachev defeated Alexander Volkanovsky by decision of the judges and defended the UFC lightweight title

Russian mixed martial arts fighter Islam Makhachev defeated Australian Alexander Volkanovski in a title fight at the UFC 284 tournament in Perth (Australia).

Makhachev won by unanimous decision of the judges after five rounds (48-47, 48-47, 49-46).

The Russian defended the champion’s belt for the first time in his career and inflicted Volkanovsky's first defeat in the UFC.

Let’s remind that the Australian rose in weight in an attempt to become the champion of the organization in two divisions.

Makhachev is 31 years old, he now has 24 victories and 1 defeat, which he suffered in 2015. On October 22, Makhachev became the UFC champion, defeating Brazilian Charles Oliveira. The 34-year-old Volkanovsky is the UFC featherweight champion, with 25 wins and two losses in his career.
