In order to eliminate queues in front of stores owned by the Ministry of Trade, the sale of subsidized groceries in state-run stores was suspended last week and deliveries to homes of Ashgabat residents were organized.
The Ashgabat Association of Markets (Aşgabat şäher Bazarlar birleşigi), which is made up of 13 main markets and their subsidiaries, is responsible for the deliveries.Districts are assigned to a specific bazaar.
For instance, bazaar №3 serves the residential district of Parakhat-9 and some adjacent districts whereas “Ak Yol” market serves the 11th district.
Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that groceries are being delivered to Ashgabat residents in an irregular and haphazard manner. For instance, residents of apartment blocks №1- №10 in the district of Parakhat-7 have had their groceries delivered, some households even twice.
However, no deliveries have been organized for the residents of apartment blocks no. 15, 19, 20 and others.
Those residents who have not had the groceries delivered are calling the Ministry of Trade but their calls remain unanswered.
Employees of “Jenet” and “Sumbar” markets, who are engaged in grocery deliveries, explain to residents that as soon as a batch of groceries (including sugar, vegetable oil and chicken drumsticks) is allocated to them, they deliver them to apartment blocks as per instructions of the market.
However, this does not happen on a daily basis and the quantity is not sufficient for all residents of the district.
Groceries are delivered to residential buildings after 6 p.m.
Rumours are circulating among residents that subsidized groceries will be delivered only until the 140th anniversary of Ashgabat, celebrated on 25 May, and sales will be resumed in state-run shops thereafter.
We have so far failed to confirm this information. The post Irregular and haphazard delivered of groceries to Ashgabat residents first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
