The videoconference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan in assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan on International Mother Earth Day was titled “Multilateral Dialogue on the Promotion of Cooperation in the Aral Sea Basin”.
Heads and experts of profile establishments, national parliament, scientists and public figures, and also experts of the international and regional organizations partners of Turkmenistan in the field of preservation of the environment were invited to participate in the conference.
Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Christine Weigand, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Husiddin Sharofitdinov, Permanent Representative of the UN Development Programme Office in Turkmenistan Natia Natsvlishvili, Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia Zafar Makhmudov, Representative of the FAO Sub-regional Office for Central Asia Cumiter Broca, as well as the Head of the GIZ Regional Programme “Green Central Asia” Doctor Caroline Milow gave speeches at the event.
Participants discussed the efforts and initiatives carried out by Turkmenistan in the solution of issues on preserving the Aral Sea and the betterment of the socio-economic condition of the population of the Aral Sea basin, as well as pointed out the ways for the development of cooperation on protecting the ecological wellbeing of the region.
