The International Conference “Sustainable cooperation in the energy sector is an important condition for universal development”, convened by Ashgabat, will be held on December 1. The forum on the energy diplomacy of Turkmenistan is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the country’s neutrality.
Taking into account temporary restrictions on travel, the scientific and practical conference will be held both face-to-face and online, which, even in the context of a global pandemic, will bring together on one site key experts of the global oil and gas industry from the already announced 32 countries.
The conference will be held in a building of the Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas at the State Concern Turkmengaz. It is expected to bring together over 220 delegates from 70 companies, 120 of which will participate online through the Zoom platform.
Along with such energy giants as CNPC, PETRONAS, LUKOIL, SOCAR and Dragon Oil, representatives of reputable international organizations and financial institutions will also take part in the forum.
The plenary session theme is “Sustainable cooperation in the energy sector is an important condition for universal development”, with the keynote speech to be delivered by State Minister, Turkmengaz State Concern Chairman Batyr Amanov. His speech focuses on the importance of transnational pipelines as key elements of energy security and sustainable development.
Secretary General of the International Gas Union Luis Bertran Rafecas will speak first time at the Ashgabat forum. This is one of the most authoritative organizations in the world energy sector, which was founded in the early 30s of the last century with the aim to promote development of the gas industry on a global scale.
The International Gas Union currently has over 100 members (72 full and 30 associate members) from 71 countries. Membership in IGU is held by national associations of gas producers, as well as large companies representing the gas industry. The topic of Mr. Rafecas’s presentation will be Natural Gas in the post-COVID-19 Energy World”.
The organizers also note the participation in the conference of Valerie Ducros, Executive Director of the Global Gas Center (GGC), with a report on Natural Gas a Key Element in the Transition to Sustainable Energy.
GGC is a non-profit organization for gas company executives and experts who wish to share their views and best practices in a neutral, independent and inclusive organization. It is a unique platform that aims to promote sustainable energy with a particular focus on issues related to the natural gas sector.
The Global Gas Center is based in Vevey, Switzerland, as this country offers a neutral, stable, independent and international environment favorable to gas companies.
Dr. Stephen Wright, CTO of Gaffney Cline, a long standing partner of Turkmen national oil and gas companies, will share his experience of international cross-border cooperation in field development.
The first session will cover the topic of energy diplomacy of Turkmenistan in the report of Guychgeldi Baigeldiyev, Chairman of the State Concern Turkmennebit on the topic Energy Diplomacy of Turkmenistan is a Guarantee of Sustainable Cooperation.
The presenters will also include European Union Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso, CNPC Director General Li Shulian, UN Special Representative for Preventive Diplomacy Natalya German and others.
Tariq Saidi, Editor-In-Chief of the News Central Asia online resource, will deliver a report “Neutrality of Turkmenistan inspiration of the TAPI corridor and the path to stability and prosperity in Afghanistan”.
Julian Bowden, a scientist at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, will sum up the first session outcomes. OIES is the world’s leading independent energy research institute specializing in cutting-edge research into the economy and policy of international energy in the oil, gas and electricity markets.
The second session of the scientific-practical conference will focus on the role of financial institutions as a driving force for development and stability. Rahymberdi Jepbarov, Board Chairman of the Foreign Economic Affairs Bank of Turkmenistan, will be the moderator and keynote speaker.
Reports will be delivered during this session by TAPI Pipeline Company Limited CEO Muhammetmyrat Amanov, Acting Chairman of the Central Bank of Afghanistan Ajmal Ahmadi, representatives of the Asian Development Bank and Credit Suisse Bank.
On the conference’s sidelines, bilateral meetings will be organized between representatives of international organizations, oil and gas companies and the leadership of the oil and gas sector in Turkmenistan.
