The Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted International Conference “The United Nations Organization: Cooperation for Global Peace and Sustainable Development”. The forum has been timed to the 75th anniversary of the UN and 25th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan.
Heads and personnel of number of ministries and departments of the country, heads of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations, directors of educational institutes, and representatives of public organizations as well as local and foreign mass media and students took part in work of the conference.
Vice-premier, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov addressed speech to participants of the forum.The Head of the Foreign Ministry of the country has noted strategic character of the dialog with the UN.
It was highlighted that multidimensional partnership with the United Nations is one of the main vectors of activity of Turkmenistan in the world arena.Based on acquired practice of cooperation, this cooperation is expanded at modern stage absorbing new directions and current subjects of the world development.
“The UN is the only international organization, which is to provide multilateral cooperation for strengthening of global security and sustainable development”, - President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted.R.Meredov has reported important milestones of development of cooperation with the UN in his speech, having focused on importance of the Framework program of cooperation in sustainable development between the Government of Turkmenistan and United Nations Organization for 2021 2025 singed in March this year.
Turkmenistan carries out active work with the UN specialized structures, which is aimed at promotion of global peace and sustainable development.Thus, relative plans have been developed and approved on the Government level by the Governement of Turkmenistan together with efficient cooperation with the Office of the UN Permanent Coordinator in Turkmenistan, the WHO country office and other UN agencies for prevention of spread of COVID-19 in the country and minimization of social and economic impact of the pandemic.
Voluntary national report of Turkmenistan has been presented at high-level political forum in New York in July 2019. Active work is carried out on government level for joining to international conventions including humanitarian direction, trade, transport, environment and many other.
The Neutrality Friend Group for peace, security and development has been established for strengthening of political dialog and promotion of multilateral cooperation.
The UNDP Representatives Natia Batzvlishvili, Ambassador of Russian Federation to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat Natalya Drozd, Deputy Head of the UN Regional Center of Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Philipp Saprykin, Head of the UNICEF country office Christine Weigand as well as Head of the country office of the World Health Organization Paulina Karvovska made speech at the forum.
Thought about important role of neutral status of Turkmenistan in achievement of peace, stability and sustainable development on international level has run as a red line through the speeches.
