Indians took more than 50 million flag selfies to celebrate Independence Day

Within the framework of the celebration of the 78th Independence Day of India, a large-scale patriotic event “Tiranga to every home” was held. The initiative of the country's authorities caused an unprecedented response among the population: more than 50 million citizens uploaded their selfies with the national flag to a web resource specially created for this purpose.

Bigasia.ru reports this.

The campaign, which ran from August 9 to 15, covered the entire country. According to Home Minister Amit Shah, India has literally become “three colours”. Residents enthusiastically took pictures with the Tiranga (the name of the Indian tricolor) and decorated their homes and public buildings with flags in both cities and rural areas.

It is noteworthy that the action was not limited to photo sessions.During the celebrations, a new world record was set: on August 13 in Chandigarh, almost 6 thousand students and schoolchildren, dressed in the colors of the national flag, created a living picture of the waving tricolor in the stadium.

This achievement surpassed the previous record recorded in the UAE in 2017.

Another impressive event was the hoisting of a huge national flag, 750 meters long, from the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab River, 359 meters above the ground.

The organizers of the campaign note that uploading photos to the site continues, so the final results of the campaign will be announced later.
