This year, winter onions have been planted in large areas for the first time in the north of Turkmenistan.The total land area used for onion cultivation in Dashoguz Velayat is 1,000 hectares: 500 hectares in Novbakhor Daikhan Association, S.
A.Niyazov etrap, and 400 hectares in N.Andalyp and Şawat Daikhan Associations and in a number of private farm households, Gurbansoltan-eje etrap.Every year farmers in the Dashoguz region grow good yields of fruits, vegetables, horticultural crops and cucurbits.
For instance, over 9,000 tons and over 5,000 tons of spring-sown onions were harvested in Gurbansoltan-eje etrap and S.A.Niyazov etrap respectively in the autumn.
Other etraps also produced high yields of onions this year.To meet the targets set by the state for the domestic agricultural sector, the local producers aim to significantly increase the production of agricultural crops in the region, and to learn to produce high yields of inter-planted crops and some crops planted in late autumn.
