Incheburun Terminal in Turkmen-Iranian Border Reopens For Freight Trucks

The Iranian Customs Administration on Wednesday announced Incheburun land border in Iran’s Golestan province with Turkmenistan will be reopened for truck movement on Thursday after being closed for 20 months, the country’s Mehr News Agency reports.

Ruhollah Latifi, the Spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), said the border crossing will be reopened as of Thursday for the passage of the Iranian trucks, carrying export goods to Turkmenistan, after Turkmen side’s announcement about its readiness following the reached agreements with Iran.

Latifi stated the restrictions were introduced to the border crossing in March 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that Incheburun will resume its activities on Thursday by accepting Iranian trucks.

In accordance with the reached agreements, the Iranian export goods loaded on trucks will cross the Incheburun border and upon entry to Turkmenistan, the cargo will be transferred to Turkmen vehicles for their further transportation to final destination.

In early May, the Governor of the Iran’s northern province of Golestan Hadi Haqshenas said the bill to create a free economic zone in Incheburun on the border with Turkmenistan has been approved by the country’s Expediency Council.
