On 23 June President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov arrived in Lebap velayat to attend the opening ceremonies for the new airport in the city of Kerki, the concert hall in the shape of the white yurt in Turkmenabat and the entertainment center “Children’s World” in Farap etrap.
After opening the international airport in Kerki, the head of state departed to Turkmenabad in a new aircraft. A bride and groom who had also flown to the capital of the province for their wedding ceremony were joined on board of the plane with Berdymukhammedov.
A source at “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” shared some details about the newly wedded couple. It transpired that they are a genuine l couple and not actors, who are sometimes mobilized in similar festive events with the President in attendance.
The groom, who works as a driver in the new airport, had intended to arrange the wedding ceremony a bit earlier, in mid June.After finding out about it, the airport executives and the regional authorities suggested that the bride and the groom reschedule their wedding date to enable the President to attend the festivities.
The couple and their relatives agreed.
The opening ceremony for the airport was launched at dawn.The bridal party had been asked to be at the Kerki airport by 6 a.m.
However, the officials responsible for the ceremony considered that many of the women were dressed “inappropriately” in tight-fitting dresses, a lot of makeup, with brightly polished long nails and modern hairstyle.
Eventually everyone, except the newly wedded couple and their parents, was transported to Turkmenabat by bus provided by the travel agency “Turkmensiyakhat”. Workers of culture played the role of relatives on board the plane.
The Boeing aircraft departed at about 8 a.m. Because the airport is located only 200 kilometers from Turkmenabad, all the events scheduled took place. The pilots had to fly at a lower speed and go in circles so that the television crew took their film.
At midday the civil ceremony was held at the registry office, referred to as the Palace of Happiness of Turkmenabat, with officials from the velayat and municipal khyakimlik’s office in attendance. The wedding reception, without the officials, started at 4 p.m.
Not only marriage registrations are held in the Palace but there are also halls for festivities. The Palace had been reserved for that date by another family but two days before the registration they were informed that their booking had been cancelled and they had to find another venue.
The next day in the city of Farab the amusement park “Çagalar dünýäsi” (“Children’s world”) was festively opened. It is located in the city centre, not far from “Farab” stadium.
People mobilized in the festivities were instructed to gather early in the morning.
Residents in national dress – sheepskin hats and dons (national gowns) – spent several hours under the burning sun waiting for the event to start. They were not allowed to drink water to prevent them from later asking permission to go to the toilet.
A girl from the kindergarten №3 fainted and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Doctors from the local hospital administered first aid but warned the girl’s parents not to disclose the incident.
The local authorities had been preparing for President Berdymukhammedov’s visit because the city is located less than 10 kilometers from Turkmenabad.
According to one of the scripts, kindergarten pupils were to recite poems and perform a national dance in front of the President. However, the head of state only took part in the opening ceremonies for the airport in Kerki and the White Yurt in Turkmenabat and returned to Ashgabat in the evening of 23 June.
