In the US, an immigrant with cancer hit the 1,3 billion USD jackpot

In the US, a 46 years old Laotian immigrant battling cancer won a 1,3 billion USD Powerball jackpot. This win was the fourth largest prize in lottery history. This was reported by rg.ru with reference to The New York Post.

Sefan and his wife Duanpeng will split the winnings equally with a friend who also contributed to the ticket purchase. A friend donated 100 USD to buy some lottery tickets. The family decided to take a lump sum payment, which will total about 422 million USD after taxes.

“I am very grateful for this lottery and for being so lucky”, - Safan said at a press conference organized by the Oregon Lottery. “My life will now change forever. I will be able to take care of my family and health, and also find myself a good doctor”, - he added.

The fateful ticket was purchased at a brick-and-mortar store in the Portland area in early April. This was the 41st consecutive Powerball drawing without a jackpot winner, making the latest prize especially coveted.

Safan plans to buy a home for his family in Oregon and jokes that he might continue playing the lottery. “Who knows”, he says, “maybe I’ll be lucky again!”
