The first street, named after former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who passed away in June 2023, will appear in the resort town of Portofino on the Ligurian coast.
The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the city council, which also determined the location of the new pedestrian street, reports “MIR 24” with reference to Il Secolo XIX.
The ceremony to name the street after Berlusconi will be on September 29, the birthday of the politician, who would have turned 87 years old.The city authorities, in order to obtain the appropriate permission, will have to apply to the prefecture of Genoa in order to obtain the right not to follow the rule on naming in memory of people only 10 years after their death.
It was this norm that the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, earlier referred to, explaining his refusal to immediately name one of the streets in honor of a native of the city of Berlusconi.
At the same time, the initiative of the authorities of Portofino, where Berlusconi liked to come and the villa of his son Pier Silvio is located, has already been supported by the governor of the Liguria region, Giovanni Toti, a former associate of the ex-premier of Italy.
