Within the framework of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva organized an event “Engaging Youth in the SDGs: Global and National Policy Challenges”.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the President Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov's book “Youth - the backbone of the Motherland” was presented during the event.
The meeting was attended by the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan M. Bashimova, UN Regional Coordinator in Turkmenistan D. Shlapachenko, as well as heads and representatives of the post missions accredited to the UN Office in Geneva, including Azerbaijan, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The head of the Turkmen delegation M. Bashimova in her speech spoke about the significant events held in Turkmenistan in recent years and the policy on youth, in particular its involvement in the implementation of the tasks presented in the global agenda.
The role of the state in supporting youth endeavors and maintaining their active social position in such important areas as education, health care, social protection and employment, as well as combating climate change and protecting the environment, was emphasized
It was noted that the role of youth in shaping a better future for the state and the world as a whole is described in detail in the book of the President of Turkmenistan “Youth - the backbone of the Motherland”.
During the panel discussions, the participants of the event shared the experience of their countries in the area of youth policy and exchanged views on possible areas of cooperation.
Representatives of the student youth of Turkmenistan also took part in the event. They made a presentation on their activities within the UN-based groups.
