30 July, 2021
In the evening of 29 June, 2021 the meetings bringing together managers of Ashgabat state-run stores was held to inform the attendees that effective 30 June the sale of cigarettes at government established prices will be resumed, a source at “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reports.
However, in order to avoid queues in the capital, a decision was made to sell cigarettes outside the city, in Akhal velayat.
For this POS terminals (a Point of Sale terminal, or a credit card terminal) were handed over to Ashgabat state-run stores and shop assistants were instructed to accept only cash-free payments. A restriction of 2 cigarettes per person will apply. A pack of cigarette costs 30 manats.
Each store manager was assigned to a certain store (it is usually another state-run store) located in cities of Akhal velayat Bezmein, Geokdepe, Annau and others. Shop assistants need to get there at their own expense.
It is unclear why this sale scheme was used and managers of Ashgabat state-run stores were involved in the initiative instead of supplying stores to the aforementioned retail outlets outside the capital.
As of today the sale of cigarettes has been arranged for three days, from 30 June to 2 July.It is not known whether it will be resumed after this date. The post In order to avoid queues, cigarettes to be sold outside Ashgabat first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
