In Ashgabat foreign nationals are moved from the rental apartments into hotels

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that foreign nationals in Ashgabat are forced to move from the rental apartments into hotels.

Room rates in the empty Ashgabat hotels range from $70 to $150 per night depending on the hotel and the type of room.A monthly rental fee in apartments leased by foreign nationals in residential districts of Gaudan B, Parakhat-4 and elite apartment blocks located along Independence avenue (formerly Sovetskaya street) is approximately $550 to $650.

Let us recall that in February 2016 the police and municipal authorities conducted raids to identify rental premises. The campaign was designed to detect Turkmen citizens from the provinces who were employed in the capital.

Owners were obliged to obtain a special permit to lease apartment.Law enforcement officers are now checking the apartments on the list to remove foreign nationals.

Staying in hotels is not always comfortable because guests cannot cook food particularly as cafes and restaurants are now officially closed.

Many of those who have been forced to move say that they are prepared to quit their jobs and leave the country. However, in the meantime it is not possible due to the closed borders.

Sources of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” attribute the inspections to attempts by the government to find any opportunity to supplement the budget because of the severe economic situation in the country.

At the same time, according to an interlocutor of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, many apartments in elite residential buildings on Independence Avenue are used as brothels for higher-ranking people.

However, the police take no notice. The post In Ashgabat foreign nationals are moved from the rental apartments into hotels first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
