On 22 November the top level talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev were held in Ashgabat.
After the greeting ceremony and a photo-shooting session, the one-on-one negotiations kicked off followed by the meeting bringing together the official delegations of the two countries, the state information agency TDH reports.
In the course of negotiations a wide range of issues, including cooperation in trade and economic area, fuel and energy complex as well as the diversification of transportation flows were on the agenda.
The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of partnership in energy sector and viable opportunities for setting up the energy export system and joint international expansion, TDH reports.
Moreover, the talks focused on transportation cooperation and signing of the agreement on the transportation route Afghanistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (Lazurit) with access to Europe.
Based on the results of the talks, 21 documents have been signed.
After signing the agreements, the President of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan made a joint statement by supporting sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally accepted frontiers of the two states.
The state information agency runs: “The Presidents emphasized that conflicts need to be peacefully resolved in compliance with the generally accepted principles and international law standards based on respect and observance of the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally accepted frontiers”.
At the same time, the heads of the state highlighted that the efficient implementation of the provision of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea also requires addressing the issues pertaining to the division of seabed and resources based on the principles and standards of international law.
Ashgabat and Baku will continue their joint efforts in the demarcation of the seabed.
