IEF Secretary General, Head of UN ESCAP and UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Participate in Investment Forum in Ashgabat

On 12-13 May, Ashgabat will host International Forum for Attracting Foreign Investments to the Oil and Gas Sector of Turkmenistan, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence.

The plenary session of the Forum will be held on the topic “Global Trends in Energy Markets and Prospects for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation” and will see the presentation by Joseph McMonigle, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum.

Founded in 1991, the International Energy Forum (IEF) is an international organization headquartered in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh.It is an independent global energy policy institution dedicated to providing a global dialogue between energy consumers and producers.

Forum unites 73 importing and exporting countries.The IEF serves as a mechanism for informal multilateral consultations on the development of world energy, markets and energy security with the participation of heads of departments responsible for energy policy from importing and exporting countries, the EU, as well as the UN, OPEC, IEA and other international organizations.

Another speaker of the plenary session is Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, UK Prime-Minister’s Trade Envoy in Turkmenistan, who will present UK vision on the further development of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Baroness Nicholson is a member of the House of Lords in the UK Parliament since 1997, a member of the UK Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where she is a member of the Monitoring Committee, a member of the American Bar Association’s Middle East North Africa Council, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation on global warming.

Furthermore, this session will see the speech by the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana.Established in 1947, ESCAP is mandated to deal with the economic and social problems of the region.

The Commission provides a variety of technical assistance, focusing on direct advice to governments, training and the synthesis of regional experiences and information through meetings, publications and cross-national networks, and implements programs and projects to stimulate growth, improve socio-economic conditions and promote the creation of foundations of modern society.

The upcoming Forum in Ashgabat will bring together senior management of leading national and international oil and gas companies, international financial institutions, as well as experts that shape the future of the oil and gas industry not only in Turkmenistan, but throughout the region.

Due to international travel restrictions, the Forum will also be presented in an online format, which will expand the composition of its participants, provide foreign partners with access to all sessions, including meetings with the senior management of the oil & gas and financial & economic sectors of Turkmenistan.
