I wish you happiness  a holiday blitz interview with a rising Turkmen pop star

Our meeting with one of the most famous young singers of Turkmenistan, Myahri Pirgulyeva, was held on Instagram on a holiday day. And we decided to keep the style of short messages in the messenger of this blitz interview.

Myahri is a mother of two lovely kids, and she sincerely appreciates life and seeks to know its new challenges. Most of her songs are filled with inspiring optimism. They can be called an ode to the beauty of life.

Myahri, we congratulate you on International Women’s Day! As far as we know, it is a double holiday for you!

We wish you every success! How did you get into the music business…

Every year at our school’s graduation events, I sang songs.At my own graduation ceremony in 2006 I performed a song in Turkmen language “Diýme söýemok” (“Don’t say I don’t love”).

Our school party was attended by the popular singer Maksat Kakabaev, who is known as Maro.Having listened to my performance, he said that I have a rare voice.

He also introduced me to a composer and producer Nikolay Yakimov.And that’s how I suddenly joined the world of music.

Who is your main mentor?

I don’t have a mentor as a teacher whose classes I attended. But in my work Nikolay Yakimov helped me a lot.

In your opinion, what song made you famous?

“Seňki däl” “Not yours”, recorded in 2007.

What foreign singers do you most often listen to?

Ariana Grande, Polina Gagarina, Pentatonix, Oğuzhan Koç, Dua Lipa, Kenan Doğulu, Zeynep Bastık … some Turkmen singers such as Suleyman Ushakov, Gulshat Gurdova, Zuleyha Kakayeva, Parahat Amandurdyev …

Myahri, in your songs “Aladja” and “Ayterek-Gunterek” the national Turkmen style is perfectly featured with modern genres. There is some special sound inherent only to you. How did you come to this style?

Since childhood, I was very fond of the creative work of foreign performers, studied different languages and listened to many songs in foreign languages. I think, my taste and style are result of these influences.

How does it feel to be famous?

Unusual. Nice and difficult at the same time. Being famous is a very big responsibility.

Lyrics and melodies of your songs are easy to remember. What composers and authors do you work with?

In the beginning of my carrier, the music for me was composed by Nikolay Yakimov. Later I started writing songs myself. Now I often turn to the music of a composer Sohbet Roziyev, Shatlyk Ovezov and the poems of the talented poetess Gulshirin Hanova, as well as an young poet Amangeldy Nurgeldiyev.

If you hadn’t been involved into the music …

I would be a teacher.

Who are your first listeners?

Mom and sister.

Do you play musical instruments?

I won’t say that I am a virtuoso, but when I compose songs, I play the piano.

What is your attitude to sports?

I do yoga, Pilates.

What song are you working on now?

“Gelin” (“Bride”). Lyrics and music written by me.

How do your relatives like your work?

They like what I do, respect it and support me.

What are your childhood dreams come true?

The only one did not come true to build a kindergarten. Oh yeah, I have one more dream I’m dreaming of twins …

What gives you pleasure in life?

I’m trying to enjoy everything. I really love life.

What makes you to be proud?

Motherhood.

What do you dislike about yourself?

My laziness.
