Hero of Turkmenistan Oleg Kononenko became the first to stay in space for 1000 days

Today, June 5, the hero of Turkmenistan and Russia, cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko set a new record in the history of manned astronautics for the total time spent in orbital flights: 1 000 days in space, TASS reports.

Kononenko is currently on the International Space Station this is his fifth flight into space.

Let us remind you that on February 4 of this year, Oleg Kononenko broke the world record for the total stay in space. The previous achievement 878 days 11 hours 29 minutes 48 seconds was established in 2015 by Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, who completed five flights.

Kononenko has been in space since September 15, 2023, arriving at the ISS on the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft as part of the ISS-70/71 expedition together with Nikolai Chub and American Laurel O’Hara.

It Is expected that at the end of the year-long expedition (return to Earth is planned for September 23, 2024), Kononenko’s total flight time will be 1 110 days.

To date, Oleg Kononenko has completed seven spacewalks (including the spacewalks on October 25, 2023 and April 25, 2024 during the fifth flight) with a total duration of 44 hours and 30 minutes.

On June 21, Oleg Kononenko turns 60 years old. As a gift, chocolates from the Red October factory specially made for this occasion will be delivered to the ISS.
