With the advent of 2021, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) once again celebrates the appearance of new lives in the world on January 1. UNICEF estimates that 410 children will be born in Turkmenistan on the first day of the New Year.
“This was a difficult year for all of us, and perhaps the best way to turn the page is to welcome new young lives into the world.Considering the fact that the challenges of 2020 are behind us and the opportunities of 2021 are still ahead, it is time to start creating a better world.
Children born today will inherit the world that we are going to build for them today,” said Kristin Weigand.
Globally, more than half of these children will be born in 10 countries: India (59,995), China (35,615), Nigeria (21,439), Pakistan (14,161), Indonesia (12,336), Ethiopia (12,006), the United States (10,312), Egypt (9,455), Bangladesh (9,236) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (8,640).
Infants in Turkmenistan will make up 0.11 % of the approximately 371,504 children who will be born in the New Year.
2021 will also celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UNICEF founding. During this year, UNICEF and its partners will conduct various activities.
“There is no more appropriate year than the year of the 75th anniversary of UNICEF to reaffirm our commitment to the young people who will inherit the world we leave behind,” said Ms. Weigand.
It should be noted that in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, UNICEF launched the Reimagine campaign. It calls on governments, the private sector and the public to support UNICEF efforts to respond, rebuild and rethink the world being currently under the coronavirus pandemic conditions.
