Germany's president re-elected for a second term

Frank-Walter Steinmeier is re-elected as President of Germany for a second term. According to the euronews agency, Steinmeier's candidacy was voted by an overwhelming majority of the members of the Federal Assembly. So, out of 1472 delegates of the meeting, 1045 voted for him.

The President of Germany is elected for a term of five years and performs primarily representative functions. At the same time, the foreign and domestic policy of the state is under the jurisdiction of the government headed by the chancellor.
