A group of German professors of medicine from Senior Experten Service — SES, Foundation of German Industry for International Cooperation have paid a visit to Ashgabat. SES experts are involved in conducting advancing training courses for Turkmen healthcare practitioners and sharing European best practices.
On 18 September the state information agency TDH reported that “the key objective of the organization which specializes in rendering consulting services all over the world is to support and facilitate the social and economic development of the countries”.
The website of the organization runs that “The SES is Germany’s leading volunteering organization for experts and executives who are either retired or taking some time off work”.
According to TDH, the doctors performed several surgeries in Ashgabat and saw some patients.
It should be emphasized that it is quite challenging for Turkmen healthcare practitioners to have advanced training overseas. In his article devoted to Turkmen medicine a correspondent of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” Ata Garlyev says that “Turkmen healthcare practitioners can attend the advanced training courses overseas only upon their own initiative.
However, they are often denied exit permits by administration as subordinates might get exposed not only to medical practice but also to freedom; whereas others fear that young professionals can become “too smart” and oust them”.
