Georgia to Elect New Parliament

Elections to the national parliament have started in Georgia. Polling stations have opened both in the republic and abroad, Interfax reports.

According to the Central Electoral Commission of Georgia, over 3.5 million citizens can take part in the voting. It is noteworthy that the majority of them — over 3.1 million people — will use modern electronic technologies to express their will.

For the convenience of voters, 3,111 polling stations have been organized, 67 of which are located in 42 countries around the world, which provides Georgian citizens abroad with the opportunity to vote.

18 political entities are participating in the fight for 150 deputy mandates. According to sociological surveys, five political forces have a real chance of overcoming the 5% barrier: the current Georgian Dream party and the opposition — the United National Movement, the Coalition of Changes, Strong Georgia, and For Georgia.

The transparency of the electoral process is monitored by 187 observation organizations, including 111 local and 76 international structures.
